Frequently Asked Questions

Find answers to common questions about VeraLocker, or reach out to our support team.

Features

How does the AI Task Manager work?

Pro's AI turns a short prompt like 'change AC filter' into a full draft—recurrence, step-by-step instructions, even product suggestions. You review and adjust before saving. AI never sees passwords or 2FA secrets, requires your explicit consent, and you can turn it off anytime in settings.

Features

How do shortcuts work on Android?

Turn on 'Shortcuts & Assistant' and long-press the VeraLocker icon for a 'Search vault' shortcut plus your recently opened items. You can also ask Google Assistant things like 'Open my Netflix login in VeraLocker', and recent credentials get 'Copy password' and 'Copy login code' shortcuts. As on iPhone, copied values reach the clipboard only from inside the app after you unlock, and the Assistant never sees or speaks a secret.

Features

What does VeraLocker share with Siri or Google Assistant?

Only what search needs—item names, item types (on iPhone), and tags—and only after you opt in. On Android, the copy shortcuts for recent credentials also reveal whether an item stores a password and/or a login code, never the values themselves. Usernames, passwords, two-factor secrets, documents, and photos never leave the vault. The items you open most often get suggested over time. Turning the setting off removes the shared names and stops the suggestions—except for shortcuts you pinned to your Android home screen, which keep their names until you remove them yourself.

Features

Can I attach files and photos?

Yes! Attach photos of receipts, PDFs of manuals, or images of your assets. Everything is stored locally and organized with your items.

Features

Can I use VeraLocker on my computer?

Yes. With Pro, open web.veralocker.com in your desktop browser and choose Connect to my phone. On your phone, open Settings → Desktop session, tap Scan desktop QR, scan the code, and approve the named desktop. You can search and edit records, attach files, organize binders, and import credentials from CSV. There is no desktop installation or separate account; your phone continues to host the vault.

Features

Can I import credentials from a spreadsheet?

Yes. In a Pro desktop session, open Credentials and choose Upload CSV. Download the template, replace its examples with your records, and keep the header row. Upload your CSV, review the preview, then confirm. Your phone processes the file and saves the credentials to your vault.

Features

Does a desktop session put my vault in the cloud?

Your phone remains the vault host, and its vault key never leaves it. The approved browser can read and edit your vault through end-to-end encrypted messages; the relay cannot read their contents. Use a computer you trust, and end the session when you finish. Keep making encrypted backups and save a copy somewhere other than your phone.

Features

Does my phone need to stay unlocked during a desktop session?

Yes. Keep VeraLocker open in the foreground with your vault unlocked. Locking the phone ends the session. Both devices need an internet connection, but they can use different networks. Sharing, contacts, invitations, your inbox, notification settings, AI features, and camera scanning stay in the phone app.

Features

What are multiple profiles for?

Profiles keep the different areas of your life separate—one for Personal, one for Work, one for volunteering, or however you split it. Each profile has its own items, binders, and reminders, so nothing from one role bleeds into another. The free plan includes one profile; Pro adds as many as you need.

Features

What kind of reminders can I set?

You can schedule recurring reminders for daily medication, monthly filters, or annual renewals, with lead-time alerts from 1 day up to a year ahead. IDs come with sensible defaults—90 and 30 days before expiration—and credentials get 30/14/7/1-day reminders, all adjustable per item.

Features

What happens to my shares if I restore a backup or reinstall?

Your backup carries your sharing identity, the address contacts use to reach you. When you restore or reinstall, VeraLocker asks what to do with it. Keep it, and your QR code and contacts keep working and new shares arrive on this phone; any other copy of that identity becomes read-only for cloud sharing. Start an independent copy instead, and contacts need your new QR code before they can send to you. Cloud shares nobody picks up are deleted after 30 days.

Features

How do I share items with family?

You connect once by scanning each other's QR code, with no accounts involved. After that there are three ways to send: Secure Cloud Sharing (Pro) delivers an end-to-end encrypted package that waits up to 30 days to be picked up; a direct QR code scan and a .dlshare file are free, one-time handoffs. The recipient previews every share before it's added to their own vault. With Pro, a shared item can also stay synchronized: when either of you logs a service or completes a task, the other sees it. Edits to the item's details stay on each device.

Features

Can I use Siri to open items or copy credentials on iPhone?

Yes. Turn on 'Spotlight & Siri' in settings and your item names, types, and tags become available to Spotlight, Siri, and Shortcuts. Ask things like 'Show my Passport in VeraLocker' to jump straight to an item after unlocking, or 'Copy my Netflix password in VeraLocker' and 'Copy my Netflix login code in VeraLocker' to place a password or a fresh two-factor code on your clipboard. You can even assign these to the Action button. Secrets are only ever copied from inside the app after you unlock—Siri never sees or speaks them.

Features

What are Smart Binders?

Smart Binders let you group related items together. For example, create a 'Pet Care' binder with vet records, medication schedules, and feeding instructions. You can share the whole binder with your pet sitter as one encrypted package. Your first binder is free, and you can share it by QR code or file; unlimited binders, and sharing them, come with Pro.

General

Will you keep supporting my device?

As long as your device is supported, we support it. Your vault doesn't depend on our servers, so there's no technical reason to retire older installations. New versions add features, and your existing app keeps your vault working whether or not you update, though online features like sharing may need a recent version.

General

Can I export my data?

Yes. On any plan you can export your whole vault as an encrypted backup file, manually or automatically, and restore it on another phone. With Pro, you can also export a binder as a PDF, a printout, or CSV files for insurance, taxes, or a sitter.

General

Is my data really private?

Yes. Your vault is stored and encrypted on your device, not on VeraLocker's servers, so your IDs, credentials, and asset details stay on your phone. Data leaves it only when you choose to: sending an end-to-end encrypted share, exporting a file, using AI features, which leave out sensitive details like passwords, or connecting an approved desktop browser through an end-to-end encrypted session. The desktop relay cannot read your records, and your vault key stays on your phone.

General

Can I rely on VeraLocker for the long term?

Yes. We're committed to VeraLocker for the long term, and the app is built so that commitment is easy to keep: your vault lives on your device, not on our servers, so there's no server on our end that could be switched off and take your records with it. Online extras like Secure Cloud Sharing, AI, and desktop sessions use our servers, but the vault itself never depends on them.

General

What happens if I lose my phone?

There is no cloud copy on our end to fall back on, so what you can recover depends on you: a phone-to-phone transfer to a new device carries the vault over, and any encrypted backup file you exported can be imported. That's why backups matter—turn on Automatic backups in the app's Device settings so fresh files keep appearing after each unlock, and place a second copy somewhere other than the phone (your own cloud drive, a computer) so a lost device doesn't take your only copy with it.

General

Do I need an account to use the app?

No. VeraLocker has no accounts at all, whether you use the free or Pro version. You set a vault passphrase on your device and that's it. Pro is purchased through the App Store or Google Play using your existing store settings; sharing between people works with a QR key exchange, not a login.

General

How do I move VeraLocker to a new phone?

The standard phone-to-phone transfer takes care of it: set up your new phone with the usual iOS-to-iOS or Android-to-Android migration and VeraLocker's vault moves over with everything else—just unlock as usual. The exception is switching platforms (iPhone to Android or back): since the vault has no cloud copy, export an encrypted backup file from Settings > Backup on the old phone—or copy the newest file from the Backups folder if automatic backups are on—save it somewhere you can reach from the new device, and import it there.

General

What happens if VeraLocker development ever stops?

If we ever decide to stop development, we will open source the codebase instead of shutting the app down. That means you and the community could keep using, auditing, and building on it—your vault and your encrypted backups stay in your hands either way.

General

What is VeraLocker?

VeraLocker is a digital locker app that helps you organize and track important documents, assets, maintenance schedules, and credentials. Your vault stays on your device; VeraLocker never keeps a copy of it on its servers.
